This is precisely why during celebrations like Christmas, Birthdays etc.. I & my gf choose to talk openly about gifts & only buy what d other truly needs. We surprise each other all year round.

I'm sorry - even with the toilet paper being a joke and Ramen what you craved while you were pregnant, Ramen would be something you get in your stocking at the most. He really sucks in the gift giving department. What a cheapskate that made 0 effort! I would still be mad. If you don't make it really clear that you are hurt by this expect more gifts like these in the future.

A lot of people would actually prefer a meaningful gift instead of an expensive one. Since you read her comment saying why he gave those gifts you should know that she did make it clear that she was hurt and he apologized. I think if she clued in to the joke when she unwrapped the gift she wouldn't have been hurt at all. He did make an effort, it just didn't turn out well...making 0 effort would have been getting OP nothing at all.
