Today, after years of researching and saving money, I got a pet fox. I was able to enjoy the majesty of the animal for three hours before it burrowed under the fence and ran away. FML

Listen Doc, there is such a thing as "domesticated foxes" just like cats and dogs had to be domesticated through breeding, training, and human interaction. If you do your research like OP did you would know that domesticated foxes make better pets than most cats & dogs because they have the best traits of both. If anything I blame OP for not installing a deep rooted fence because foxes at notorious diggers.

I doubt OP was dumb enough to try and have a wild fox as a pet. It was most likely a domesticated fox. I've encountered a domesticated gray fox before. It was not only cute but also cuddly and had a better temperament than most cats and dogs I've dealt with.

yeah, people think just because they have never seen a pet fox, they think that there is no such thing and all foxes are wild and belong in the wild

now you know why they called the fox a trickster.

of all the things you would save money to buy... why in the hell would you buy a fox? go to a zoo and see one... now thats monen down the drain? whats next... an elephant so it can crush your house?

but foxes are cute and are good pets if its a domesticated one!

Was it a fennec fix because if so you may find it, If its fairly domesticated there's hope but I'm sorry :/ I've been wanting one forever but I already have 35 pets!

3 years of researching and you never found out they could dig?

You can get arrested for this. Think before you act.

getting arrested for what? having his pet escape? if you mean by owning a fox, that IS legal in some states. i think you just need an exotic animal license.

first off did you even do it legally? second, even if you did, foxes are NOT meant to be pets, they are WILD animals, and need to be able to stay where they belong. If you really wanted to help then look into 'adopting' a fox at a zoo, or wildlife center, where your money goes to saving a fox, and helping its life be as best as it can. Third off, you said you did your research, obliviously you didn't because if you had, you would have known or found out that foxes LOVE to burrow and dig tunnels and holes, and that it is their lifestyle to do so. Learn how to properly deal, and care for wild animals before you just go making things worse for them please. this coming from a someone who is in college to learn about animals, and animal rehab, because i love animals more than life itself, and my life will be dedicated to trying to help make their lives better. Maybe try to volunteer with a wildlife center near you if you love wildlife. just please don't be stupid.

Ok, first of all, the word you were looking for was obviously. Second of all, there are domesticated foxes. Third of all, all animals kept by humans were once wild too. Did you think they just magically appeared in houses and on farms? So really, who's the stupid one?

OP said she was saving up money, so she bought a fox, so it was most likely legal. and second, there are domesticated foxes that ARE meant to be pets.

Why are the comments saying it's a wild animal getting downvoted? It's true, it's a stupid idea to keep a wild animal as a pet. YDI

Maybe because of the fact that there are foxes bred domestically, and some people are effing morons to think she'd be dumb enough to get one that was wild? Where do you think dogs, horses, and other domesticated animals came from? Would you also condemn those who legally buy serval cats that have been domesticated? They're technically wild cats, like ocelots, bobcats, and lynxes that have been bred to be domesticated. Educate yourself and stop making stupid assumptions.

because OP would be an idiot to adopt a wild fox, so she most likely got a domesticated one.

because they are adorable and make better pets than most dogs. Y would you write the letter Y instead of why?

Clearly didn't do enough research! I would love a pet fox though :)
