Today, as a veteran blood donor, I made a friend who was donating for the first time- I told her not to be scared and that I've been doing it for six years and that it was a great way to help people. While at the snack area afterwards, I passed out, started convulsing and went into shock. FML

"Today, I went to donate blood for the first time. I figured I'd be fine because I was going with my friend who donates all the time. After he donated, he went into shock and started convulsing. I am never donating blood ever again. FML"

You could have just posted the last sentence and it'd still suck. o_o

Been there. They took my blood even though my iron was a TAD too low, and then took more blood than they were supposed to... Sorry you had to go through that.

you know op i do understand on my fifth one i got really ill and i had donated before and been fine same conditions and every thing i made one of my friends donate too and she saw that and freaked out for all you reconsidering the fact to donate let me give you this fact, If some one hadn't donated blood i wouldn't have my mother so donating really can save lives that one person saving my moms life made me want to donate because also i have a rare blood type AB+ so you know go out there even with this fml in mind go out there and make a difference

Next time try to use short sentences, or maybe a punctuation mark or even two. I agree with you but that was a bit hard to read for someone like me whose mother language is not english.

AB+ is indeed a rare blood type. It's also called the 'receiving' blood type. You can get all types of blood when needed, but if you give it, it can only be given to people with AB+ as well. Sorry to burst your bubble - your blood might be needed, but it's not a practical blood type. It's more important for people with O- (or O+) to donate, since they can give to all blood types. If I'm right, that is.

That's the same blood type I have but they send me home because I'm too hard to stick. My veins are really deep and I take too much time away from other people.

I would like to say 3 words on your behalf, BAD ******* NEEDLE.... that is all

I have never weighed the minimum to donate blood. But if I did you convulsing on the floor would make me have to donate another day just to convince myself people my blood.

They call me because they need my blood type all the time but end up sending me home every time I go because my veins are such a hard stick. Plus they can only ever get half a bag before having to start another puncture higher up the vein.

happened to me too...not the shock thing..

Yeah.... Vasovagal syncope happens to me too when I see or lose some blood. Honestly it's no big deal, and even though it seems scary, it's common, and I'm sure the nurses deal with it all the time.
