Today, as a veteran blood donor, I made a friend who was donating for the first time- I told her not to be scared and that I've been doing it for six years and that it was a great way to help people. While at the snack area afterwards, I passed out, started convulsing and went into shock. FML

Awe, that sucks. If it makes you feel any better, I donate as often as I can and nearly pass out all the time, even with the extra measures that they take from the get go.

I've given blood 3 times and never had ANY problems. The only part that even really hurts is the finger stick in the beginning.

aw. that really sucks. hope you feel better!

#23, what do you mean it's a federal law? I wasn't aware of such a law that specifies who can and cant donate blood. Also, when I was doing the interview, I thought that there were going to be more questions about it, she did ask me if it was rape which made me thing that it would be OK if it wasn't rape. I didn't know that it was flat out no. The awkward bit was when she asked when it was... "What was last Thursday's date?"

32, I agree the figure pick is the worst part

Yup, I really don't understand that. Well, in any case, i'm too small (

You probably have low blood pressure or low iron levels. Strange that they let you donate.

How ironic. I'm going to go donate plasma for the first time tomorrow. I'm excited though. I've given blood before and the only problems I've had after is being tired and slightly dizzy. But giving plasma is a bit different it takes about an hour for one session but hey! I'm getting paid $25 for it and with plasma you can donate twice a week. I really hope your misfortunes haven't deterred your friend from donating in the future, it's such a good cause.

And people wonder why I absolutely refuse to give blood....thankfully I currently get to use the excuse of I have gotten a tattoo within the past year, so I can't.
