Today, at my school, the student council is trying to raise $5000 for Haiti. They are doing so by playing the song from High School Musical in the hallways and cafeteria everyday until they get the money. FML

Sounds kind of fun to me. If you know a lot of people don't like the song, why not set up a stand selling earplugs and send those profits to Haiti as well?

I find it weird that you can whine about your life being bad because of music in an anecdote which started by mentioning Haiti. Perspective much?

wow, it was only the americains that begged Canada to help them out in Iraq...

I'm pretty sure that could very well be considered a form of extortion...which is illegal...

That's hilarious. Obnoxious, but hilarious. Why don't you just use your iPod in the halls/cafeteria? o__O Unless your school is particularly strict about that stuff, I guess.

I agree with #116 but you should just bring headphones to school or something

Can you really blame anyone for being what so many people here consider to be "selfish"? Not everyone can be compassionate about everything all the time; people don't have to be thinking about Haiti every second of every minute of every day in order to be a good person... Do I feel bad about what happened in Haiti? Of course, but do I feel utterly depressed about it? No, because I don't know anyone. And if you're gonna call me selfish for not caring about people I don't even know and for not completely ignoring my own life and my own problems in the favor of people I DON'T EVEN KNOW, then **** you. :)

I agree with this. There are plenty of people who are homeless or disabled here, whether through mental illness or other circumstances that are not their fault. No one is having rallies to help these people, or to help struggling single moms, or to help people who can't find a job because of the recession and are having their homes foreclosed. Haiti is the new "popular" charity. Louisiana still isn't rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina - how about you add ten dollars to your cell phone bill to help with that?

That's NOT what anyone else here is saying at all. We're just saying that complaining about having to sit through a three or four minute song once a day when it's meant to raise money for truly needy people is a bit selfish.

If your city ever gets in the way of a natural disaster, I'll be sure to ignore you because I DONT EVEN KNOW YOU. :) Honestly, you say why should you help those in Haiti when there are so many homeless people in America? Why aren't you helping out the homeless in America then. You so far, are doing absolutely nothing for your community so stop spreading your selfish ideals.
