Today, I was going to volunteer at a soup kitchen. I saw a man working, so I went up to him to ask where I should sign in. Before I even opened my mouth, he told me that they opened at 12 and to come back then for my meal. FML

Today, my boyfriend scolded me for asking whether he’d like his favorite soup for lunch when he was, "in absolutely no shape to survive ingesting food." Two hours later he's greedily digging into an almost expired pack of cheap and nasty supermarket waffles from out of his bag. FML

Today, I went to a café and got some soup. When I was done, a nice waiter came over and offered to take my mostly empty soup bowl. I quickly ate the last of it, looked up smiling and said, "Thanks!" The soup dribbled out of my mouth and onto his hand. FML

While it's not an excuse for being rude, I'm thinking he is most likely depressed with the way his life turned out and he takes it out on people. He probably wishes deep down that he was on the other side of the counter like you are. (p.s. Thank you for helping others!)

Not that I condone what the guy did, but I'm dismayed at the overwhelming lack of empathy for fellow human beings!! Homeless people are PEOPLE. And while it's shitty to be yelled at for trying to help, you have to understand how unbelievablly aweful it'd be to find yourself in that guys position. He probably wasn't actually mad at you, rather his situation that's lead him to having to rely on soup kitchens. As one poster mentioned, mental problems could have been a factor ....like depression, bipolar, Schizophrenia, or substance abuse. Please dont let this discourage you from helping people again. It is quite kind that you helped in the first place, OP.
