Today, at work, I stepped out for a few minutes to use the bathroom. Shortly after returning, I found out the hard way that one of my coworkers had used my computer to send a profanity-filled email to our boss, calling him an asshole and telling him to go fuck himself. I'm now jobless. FML

You can actually prove that you did not send that if you can find yourself on a building camera away from the computer at the time

LOCK THE CONSOLE WHEN YOU WALK AWAY! Some jobs say if it was done under your name, badge, email, etc, you didn't protect your identity and the blame is yours. You can fight the firing, but unless surveillance shows you walking to the restroom time stamped with the email's time, or the ****** that hijacked the console, you may not be as to prove you never wrote that.

Are there cameras in the building? If so you could prove you were in the restroom when the email was sent, you might even get a picture of who actually sent it.

YDI for not locking your computer. Windows+L is all it takes.

Dumbass I highly doubt OP just let this happen.

You always lock your computer when you leave it for security reasons....... at least that's what they told me when I worked for dell

Perhaps you can explain to the boss that you're not quite stupid enough to send such an email from your own computer.

I don't know how you could have possibly deserved this, OP.

No offense, OP, but... I work in IT. Any company that provides company email to their employees has a security policy in place, and that includes locking your computer whenever you leave it, even if it's only for a few minutes--to prevent things like this from happening.

I would sue for wrongful termination. All you need is some proof you left the building as every buisness has cameras and get to a lawyer asap. Then hunt this MOFO down and ruin his life

Not locking the computer before leaving the workstation is a sackable offence at some companies.
