Ok people, I'm seeing a lot of comments here saying stuff like "compliments are not sexual harassment, boohoo you hate it when people tell you nice things, etc..." First of all, we don't know his exact wording. For all we know, he could've been complimenting her in a very vulgar fashion. Secondly, even if he was saying something like "oh, you look good today," the WAY you say it can change things completely. The words themselves are fairly innocuous, but add emphasis on certain parts, a wink here and there and maybe little kisses, and it becomes something which can understandably make someone very uncomfortable. Thirdly, it says "the janitor would not stop..." implying either that she clearly asked him to stop but he refused and/or that he was complimenting her excessively (which can impede your work, take up your time, put stress between you and your coworkers, etc...) if done consistently. In the latter case, I wouldn't necessarily say go to HR right away, but only if he refuses to stop once you ask him. Fourthly, he has been fired for harassment before! That, and the fact that OP clearly felt uncomfortable about whatever it was he wa saying, makes it seem much more likely to me that his attitude was inappropriate, than that OP is just a self-absorbed overreacting bitch.
I would think he would have realised after losing his first and now losing it again (soon) should help
Explain to me how saying "you look beautiful today" is harassment. Even if he says it over and over. Yeah, it's probably annoying, but no, it's not harassment
I suggest you take the original post to the HR department of the company you work for and ask if, by law, it does, or even can, constitute sexual harassment, and if so how. I can positively guarantee that you will get an answer, and explanation, that you don't expect.
I'm liking all the feminists that are down voting all the comments that are saying how someone complimenting another person's appearance isn't sexual harassment.
Ah, the internet. Immediately jumping to defend someone with a *history of sexual harassment* because "IT'S JUST A COMPLIMENT HE WASN'T HARASSING YOU". //Don't you just love it? //heavy sarcasm
Hope he gets taken care of! You shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable at your job! Best of luck, OP!
If she asked him to stop then anything after that can be considered harassment.
