Today, despite feeling healthier than ever, losing fat, gaining muscle and having perfect blood results, my morbidly obese relatives keep telling me that my new vegan diet is "unhealthy". FML

I'm about as far from vegan as is possible, and I'm 100% on your side. If it works for you, it works for you. End of discussion. Ignore them, eat your soy, and enjoy your health.

It's their lives that suck. Way to be healthy!

Listen OP, some people like to sit and stuff their face and comment on every thing even if it's not their place or if they're wrong. It's been my situation for so long with my family. Either I've gained weight or I've lost too much weight, constant judgment and insecurity. You just gotta ignore them and do you. Only you can feel what is right for your body and what is not. Keep up the hard work and stay motivated because your health is what matters most.

I don't think I'd ever be able to do vegan, because my wife likes dairy and eggs, but I've been vegetarian since March, and it's given me a crapload of energy. I also find that because I need to be more mindful of getting complete proteins, B12, and iron, that I consume healthier food with more nutrients than when I was an omnivore. I get flack from my relatives who think that "it's pointless", but you know what? Those people need to be ignored.

For now it is but be very careful. After a few years you could end up vitamin B12 deficient. I actually just watched a video of a vegan that it happened to. she was left with 2 choices, to go and get b12 injections for the rest of her life or start eating at least some meat to give her body the b12 it needed. she chose the later.

I get a healthy amount of B12 from my plant based milks and vegan yoghurts that person wasn't eating plants heavy in B12 or wasn't looking into what contained it. Not saying what she did to rectify it wasn't bad but you can be vegan and not be B12 deficient animals are not the only place to contain it, where do you think they get it from

There is no reliable non-synthetic source of b12 that isn't animal based.

You only need a small amount of b12 as it's recycled in the body, most people with b12 deficiencies have them because of digestive problems rather than lack of b12 in their diet. Personally I get enough b12 from energy drinks lol (probably not the healthiest way, but I used to drink them before I went vegan anyway)

it's always the fat ppl who try to bring you down when you try to make good changes. power through. you wont be the one who has a heart attack bc your arteries were clogged

Like they are the ones you should be taking dietary advice from? Now, I have enough common sense to realize any form of dieting has its pros and cons buts that reminds me of the old saying "Never trust a skinny chef."

They don't want you to make them look bad

Vegetarian/vegan diets are not always for everyone though. My aunt is vegetarian and thin whereas I am about 50 lbs overweight and am healthier than her. Good for you for trying something different though and bad on them for judging you.

You know it doesn't cure existing ailments when you become vegan/vegetarian right? Also if your aunt doesn't have any existing ailments then she's not balancing her diet correctly you'd be surprised with the amount of people who don't

I know what you mean. I was eating healthy for a few months but my family kept teasing me. I felt better but it was a lot of work. I eventually just stopped because I got embarrassed. Now that I live on my own I need to get back in the habit :(

you wont last long when nuclear winter comes
