Today, despite my best efforts to keep my new apartment clean and weeks of denying the complex has a bug problem, I came face to face with a roach in my cupboard. I swear the little bastard waved at me. FML

OP here. I've spoken to management and they're working on an exterminator, as the whole complex was bought out 3 weeks ago. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later, or I will have to burn it down! In the meantime my cat and I have shown no mercy.

Those little boogers are (nearly) the worst! I hope it was at night time when you saw it. Usually, they say that if you see them during the day, the infestation is so bad, they are overcrowded and have nowhere else to hide. No joke! I moved into a place like that, and I'm convinced an exterminator is the only way to get rid of them. I hope you have a good landlord to take care of that issue.

Sleep with a can of Raid under your pillow

The little fella is just trying to do its post-apocalyptic house hunting as early as possible. You've gotta admire the initiative. One day, in the wake of judgement day, the roach might be in denial of its house having a zombie problem. Then you'll be able to wave your pallid undead arm at IT!

Is it sad that I always look for your epic comments on every FML?

I had the same issue with my last apartment. My husband and I weren't dirty people, but we had one of the worst infestations I had ever seen. Our landlady even had all units remove their furniture and belongings for a few hours to bug bomb all the buildings, including emptying out drawers, closets, etc. If we didn't comply, we had to pay a service fee. I'm willing to bet that a few people in our building did exactly that, because we didn't have bugs for the first day or two, but then they came back like nothing happened. When sharing a building with other people, it doesn't matter how proactive you are with ridding roaches and other bugs. They'll just migrate to another unit and come back when the coast is clear. Your best option is to move out at the first opportunity. If you're under a lease, I would suggest not breaking it early unless you absolutely must. But If you're living month to month, let your landlord know you're leaving as soon as possible. Check all boxes for bugs before taping them up to ensure that you don't have unwanted hitchhikers traveling with you. Good luck with your situation.

Was the roach smoking in your joint? did you wave back?

Just be glad they're not bedbugs. Having those is a whole other ballgame.

You're not alone! One stared me in the face after it say it's butt on my pillow, so I clipped its antennas and grabbed one of my chickens to gobble it up. DON'T SIT ON MY PILLOWS!!!!
