Your reasoning behind doing it is pretty sad. But putting a dollar or two in before you start your shift usually helps people tip a little bit more on a slow night (which is why I did it when working at certain establishments).

Good thing you didn't get the tip cup stolen because then you would have been extra pathetic. Tip cups at fast food joints piss me off, why does everyone feel the need to be a mooch these days?

There are tip jars at Subway? Huh, I was just there a few minutes ago and I didn't see one. Oh well, I wouldn't have tipped anyway.

Subway as a franchise doesn't have tip jars. whatever you had was put there by someone you work with.
