I think people often tell you to tell the girl right away. Honestly I think it does more to help you with your guilt than it does good for your woman. In all seriousness she'd probably be better off never finding out about this infidelity of yours. The only real ethical thing you could do is end it with her without telling her about it. Your guilt is your own, and hurting her isn't worth making you feel only slightly better about yourself.

She deserves to know. If my boyfriend cheated on me, I'd want to know about it even if it did hurt me. That way I'd know that the relationship wasn't worth it anyway, and to steer clear of him in the future.

And if your idea of loving and respecting another person involves being dishonest with them, especially about something that could affect their decision to continue in the relationship, then I sincerely hope I never meet you.

Your dad has a shitty attitude about marriage and his logic is messed up. You shouldn't cheat on someone because you're just going to get divorced anyway, because then why even get married? However, if you lie and cheat on your spouse they're going to be more likely to go after you for more money and I wouldn't really blame them.
