Don't take it personally, OP. Speaking as the daughter of a medical doctor, doctors get asked out A LOT. But they are also the most heavily sued, so even being in the same room with someone who may be romantically interested without two other witnesses there with him/her (especially male doctors because of stigma) opens them up to all kinds of risk, even if your intentions were pure. The nurse was sent as a mediator.
You're an adult. You know doctors can't date their patients. If you liked him so much you wouldn't have put him in that position to begin with.
