Today, I borrowed my dad's laptop to type an essay. While I was saving it, I noticed some curious looking files and I opened them. They were rejection letters from all the colleges I had applied to. My dad had been forging them so he wouldn't have to pay for my tuition bills. FML

Asshole, he should of told you he couldn't afford them so you had time to get a job and to apply for some scholarships. Sorry that your dad is a coward and a selfish bastard (assuming he didn't just lost his job) but then he wouldn't have enough time to forge them. pre-meditated bastardness.

dick move! does he not want you to go to school and be successful?

Write him a letter from his 'boss' dismissing him from his job.

That's one of the most messed up things I've ever heard. If your dad didn't want to pay for your education, he could have just told you to take out student loans rather than sabotaging your future like that. Really, really f*cked up. I'm sorry.

All of the people that say YDI for going to college probably are projecting their own insecurities about them not going to college. Either that, or they are just a bunch of trolling muffin breathers. Talk about Efffed up.

......... What kind of a father is that? Speaking of tuition bills... I don't really know if it is the case where you live, but in my country your parents have to pay for your education as long as their financial situation allow it, until you are 25 (I think). If they don't, you can sue them. I'm pretty sure it's not the same in the US, but still, you should check. Anyway, call the universities. Try to find out (if your dad won't give you the real letters) where you were accepted, then go see them, explain your situation and hope they'll take you. ONE more student doesn't change anything for them. I had to do the same, and I was accepted (of course, it was not the same circumstances).

well he is the 1 paying the massive fees, but he could have done it in a better way than making you feel like a dumbass for not getting into the schools you wanted

He DOESN'T have to be the one to pay the "massive" fees. Hell, I cover most of my tuition with my mom; my dad doesn't give me a cent nor do I make him. And we don't know what kind of colleges the OP applied to; they might not even be as expensive as people are making them out to be. Student loans, grants, scholarships, financial aid - you have so many options that your dad SHOULD know about if he were smart enough to read up on that kind of thing. Serious FYL. Do what others have mentioned; try to talk to the schools you got accepted into and explain the situation. At least one might be able to help you out.

Guys, I think this is the first FML I've read that is truely a F***-MY-LIFE.

He should pay if he has the money , but if he's in financial trouble then YDI , well not rlly because he could just tell you .

This sounds like a FAKE FML. I just can't believe that your father would go through So much trouble in creating rejection letters and that YOU failed to notice. When applying to colleges, the schools can reach you in other ways too such as through e-mail. After your acceptance to a college, the school will follow up with numerous emails to your inbox. And even if you can't access your email (which shouldn't be the case in the first place), some universities will phone you (especially the expensive private ones) about any questions you may have about financial aid or about the school in general. Bah, I just can't believe this fml. Its too absurd sounding..

Maybe he had a good reason and didn't want to admit to you that he cannot afford for you to go to the school that you'd like to. Though that is extremely lame beyond words that he would do that. Should be up front sort of cowardly if you ask me. Just do well in school you don't need to go to an exp. school to succeed in life :) GOOD LUCK.
