Hey guys, OP here! To clear up the mystery of why I didn't just get rid of the detergent - it was in a gift basket my grandma gave me since I've just moved out of my parents home to go to university. I'd have felt like a massive dick to throw away my granny's present, even though it smells like mothballs. I thought I'd cover up the smell and make my clothes snuggly soft in the process, but looks like the plan backfired, haha. Who'd have guessed that the main ingredients of puke are mothballs and wildflowers?
You're in university. Are you sure that someone didn't just puke into the washer or dryer or whatever?
Next time instead of trying to cover up the smell with another smell, put a half cup of white vinegar in with your detergent when you wash your clothes. Also switch to a detergent that doesn't smell like shit. Doesn't matter if your grandma gave it to you. What would you do when you used it up? Keep the container as a memento?
At least you didn't mix colors like I did last night! I went to school in pink laundry smelling clothes!
Here's a thought.. Buy a different detergent..
That's why you don't mix fragrances. I feel like this is a "duh" moment.
Why would you....combine them.... Especially since the new one was expensive...?

Why didn't you just ditch the nasty smelling detergent?
So you thought you'd mask the scent of something you don't like with something else? Are you the same guy who hangs 17 pine tree deodorants from your rear-view mirror to cover up the scent of the dead body in your trunk?
