Today, I busted my ass to help this old lady move her stuff because she was going to a nursing home. I was told I would get paid. When I finished four hours later the lady took me to a room and told me to pick out anything in her little goody bag. I got a race car as payment. FML

Everybody who's saying "you shouldn't have expected something in return" is a douche. Who cares if he should have done it for free, the lady is a total dick for telling him he'd get paid and then not doing so in the end. Just because you're disadvantaged doesn't mean you're allowed to LIE to people.

Sounds suspiciously like and episode of The Simpsons where Bart was paid in ribbon candy for hard work. Otherwise, some of you people are morons. Anyone who is bad off enough to move into a nursing home probably doesn't have full use of their faculties. I worked in a nursing home while in college and it was the saddest most depressing place I've ever been. If the OP was smart enough to JUST ASK what the payment would be, he wouldn't have wound up with a race car. I have never started a job at any age without asking how much the pay was.

I don't understand why people are freaking out about one simple spelling mistake. (paid not payed) it's no big deal. And OP I would understand why you would be pissed off.

That does really suck. Especially because I'm sure she was old and senile and trying to be nice, so it's not as if you could get all shitty about it, but it still sucks. It doesn't make you an ass for wanting to be paid when you were told you'd get paid. It's just unfortunate that the...erm, misunderstanding occured. But you'll get over it; it's not a huge deal. And the people commenting negatively are overly-sanctimonious and like to pretend that they're much more saintly than everyone else around them. :)
