you're paying the bills, aren't you? she was caring for you.
Actually, depending on where you are, it can cost a shitload of money. I live in the eastern US and I called my friend in Australia and we talked for about 45 mins, and it ended up costing around $300. So no, it isn't just a few bucks.
why is everyone on here so rude? surely if you lived with your parents, and then went overseas for two months, you'd want to call? maybe it was easier for OP to call than get access to the internet. i know there are internet cafes, but sometimes they aren't near where you are staying, and internet in a hotel over here can be pretty expensive too. plus, maybe the mother isn't good on a computer, let alone the internet. my mum can email, but doesn't understand msn or skype.
It's sad, but I kinda know how you feel. My mother would've done that to me too.
Well i really dont see this as an FML. But people are being really mean. Im 22 and still talk to my mother almost everyday. I am very close with my family, and I spent time abroad. If you both use Skype you and your mother can talk for free, otherwise, my mother is tech illiterate too so it only costs about 2 cents per minute if you use skype to call a home phone. two months IS a long time not to talk with your parents so screw everyone else.
grr people are being mean. maybe the OP didnt want to use the internet because it was less personal, nothing wrong with calling. its called a PHONE and the OP used it. but yea.. skype..
Well, living in Japan, I know life without your family sucks, especially when you're in another country. If you've got the right calling cards or (as previous posters has said) Skype, then it's really cheap. You can even call phones from Skype for just a couple of cents a minute. But to the people bitching about not being able to stand being away from your parents: **** off. She said she's been abroad for two months-- that doesn't mean she's ending her trip any time soon. I doubt any of you have ever even left the country alone, so go **** yourselves, you culture-less heathens.

Weren't you calling her? She was just probably wanting you to save your money for the trip.
The last sentence just ruined this one for me. Quit crying. And it's "than" not "then".
