Today, I called my mom from Australia. I have been abroad for two months and hadn't talked to her in a long time. A few minutes into the conversation my moms stops me and says this call must cost a fortune and hangs up on me. A few bucks in more important to her then me. FML

Weren't you calling her? She was just probably wanting you to save your money for the trip.

The last sentence just ruined this one for me. Quit crying. And it's "than" not "then".

My mom would do the exact same thing :-/ She's a cheap-ass!

Can I just say that a lot of FMLs are kinda biased, so the truth probably runs more along the lines of: The OP was blabbing for about ten minutes about their time in Australia and what they had been doing, and it WAS costing a fortune and honestly there are better ways of having prolonged conversations with parents/friends abroad, so the mother was honest and hung up. Still feel bad for you because you feel bad, but hey.

#29 Yea so what? A mother should still never just hang up the phone on their child without saying "Love you" or "bye", "talk to you soon" o.O I bet she'd be pissed if the OP did it to her...IMO it's never acceptable to just hang up the phone without saying goodbye.

Agreed. You make it sound like the end of the world that she doesn't want to talk to you on the phone, in the most expensive way possible. There's a difference between "You", and talking to you on the phone.

Yeah, its not a few bucks, it could be upwards of 20 dollars. Just get skype! Its 2.4 cents a minute (more or less, depending on where you are calling). But its cheap! And the software is free.

Last I checked, Skype is completely free...

hahahahaha #5 me too! I hate to be grammar police but that whole "then" instead of "than" thing really bothered me. And the fact that this person is obviously not wise enough to realize that her mom was COMPLETELY right and calling overseas is very expensive. Try AIM, Skype, MSN, facebook....there are plenty of FREE ways to stay in contact with your family if studying abroad. Oh, and make sure you take an English class over there and learn some better grammar!

Ummm. I agree with your mom. Try Skype. Or email. It's kind of a waste of money to make transcontinental calls over the phone.
