Today, I came back to my apartment after moving most of my stuff out. Upon returning, I learned that my now ex-roommate drank all of my alcohol and threw away my things, thinking that I had forgotten them. FML

I can't help but play devil's advocate here... but how long was OP gone? If she moved out in, say, May, and there was no communication until July, it's a little more understandable. I've been in a situation like that. Granted, my first response was to call my ex-roommate, and then her parents when I couldn't get in touch with her, but still.

Yep. I had a roommate move out a year ago and leave a bunch of stuff. she came back once or twice to grab some things, but there was still some stuff left. She kept saying she would come by, but didn't. After 5 months, I started using her supplies and pantry food. Still haven't seen her and have been telling her that I'm moving out and if she doesn't get her stuff in the next two weeks, it's trash.

It could have just as easily been 1 day as 1 month. Also, it doesn't seem like the old roommate tried to call, email, or contact the op in any way.

If it was the same day or next FYL.. If it was a week or so and you didn't talk to your roommate about getting the rest of your stuff later.. YDI. Anyways... That stuff should have been packed up and put out if the way if you needed to come back for it at a later time.
