Today, I came home to my wife crying. She had mixed up our newborn twin girls and couldn't tell which was which. I looked at the girls. Neither could I. FML

I'm not a parent, so all this is guesswork: It really isn't a big deal. There is a huge expectation on parents to just suddenly be amazing and perfect as soon as their baby arrives. They are identical twins, you've only seen them a few times. Of course you won't know how to know the differences yet! However, if you are good parents, there are simple things you can do to fix the problem. Just put different coloured wrist bands on each one until you can tell the difference or something along those lines. I'm sure you're going to go through way crazier things bringing up twins, so don't stress about it. Congratulations and good luck :)

Agreed. Also, like any siblings, twins will have different personalities and will start to act so pretty quickly. Just sit it out and wait. Lovely FML moment though.

hahaha. i always wondered if that actually happened to ppl.. apparently they do :P

check their finger prints. I'm a twin and my twin and I can be told apart by our finger or foot prints.

that happened with our boys. it wasn't until one if them cried that we could tell them apart.

Those of you that are criticizing the parenting skills of the OP and his wife have obviously never had newborns in the house...with one baby, you barely get any sleep. and the sleep you do get is either really light because your subconscious is afraid you won't hear the baby cry, or it's just not enough sleep, PERIOD. It'll make you mentally, physically, and just all around exhausted. Now take into consideration it's TWINS...and they could be on different sleep/eat patterns. The poor mom was probably SUPER freaking tired, and once OP Dad was put on blast to differentiate, he was probably nervous that he'd get it wrong so he couldn't make up his mind. Give them a break! The way I see it, this has almost nothing to do with /parenting skills/.
