Today, I crashed into a ditch on my way home from work. I had to walk 2 miles in -25 below zero weather before I could pick up a cell phone signal to call a tow truck. When I got back to my car, a cop was waiting for me with a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident. FML

It was negative 25 degrees below zero? So it was 25 degrees? That's not so bad. Seriously, though: #10, -25 degrees isn't deadly if you're dressed appropriately. With long underwear, sweater, warm coat, hat and gloves you can easily survive a two mile walk, and if you live somewhere where it gets that cold you learn to always wear clothing that's warm enough. Also, to the people arguing over whether cops have quotas, obviously it depends on the police department. You're all morons.

Cops do have quotas, and in fact they are rewarded for making or exceeding said quotas. However, they are not supposed to be punished for not meeting said quotas.

-25 below zero? If it is a negative it's implied that it is below zero. Idiot OP. YDI

10. cops do have quotas they have to fill thats why at the end of the month u see more cops out then normal ... and if its minus 25 y would u stay with a car and freeze who knows how long u could be waiting for someone to come by if they even stop and i dont know about where ur from but where im from if someones car is in the ditch and a cop comes by they pull over and wait either for someone to show up and if not in a said amount of time they call a tow truck and hall it to the impound lot then u get a ticket for leaven the scene and not reporting the accident. Same kinda thing happened to me except my alternator went in my car and i was pulled on the side of the road for hours till my dad showed up with.... a cop pull over and asked a bunch of questions and waited till we were on the road again.

Actually, cops don't have quotas. I have interned with several police depts in two different states, and not a single one had quotas. If they are doing their job appropriately quotas aren't necessary. They could spend an entire shift writing tickets. Do you know how much paperwork that is?

It's the law, should've left a note or stayed in the car before leaving. But it does really suck.

Cops are out to get you, not help you

Depends o how much the ticket is, but I would definitely consider contesting the ticket. Having no signal and being out in the middle of nowhere would freak me out too as to not remember to stay put. For me, if the ticket isn't that much, I would just pay it. You probably do have a solid defense in case you have to, though.
