Give it away. That is what I do when people keep giving me ridiculous amounts of candy around birthdays/holidays. While I am on a diet and exercising, I don't need those candy so give it away to freecycle/craigslist or whatever
Sounds like my family. I'm on a diet and grandma decides it's the perfect time to make arroz con leche. Then she gets offended if you don't eat it.

Don't let it stop you! Why not keep the candy, and allow yourelf one (small) treat a day? Diets that are too strict don't work anyway, the occasional treat should keep you motivated. You don't have to have it all at once, right? The way I see it is you can't remove all temptation from your life, so throwing out a gift from your mother isn't going to make dieting automatically easy.
