You could just thank your kind mother politely, give the candy to someone else, and then be proud at the willpower you just had to exercise.
If you don't want it, I do?
At least you have a considerate mother that thinks about you! If you don't want to ruin your diet then just give it away! It's not rocket science! Jeez some people...
My mom does the same thing. She's constantly bringing home chips, candy, soda, baked goods...Anything and everything that I should NOT be eating. Self-control is hard when it's right in front of you...
This is how my mother used to be; she's gotten a lot better now that she's trying to lose weight/eat healthier herself. But there used to ALWAYS be junk food -- chips, snack cakes, ice cream, various items from the bakery section, frozen meals -- just about anything but fruits and vegetables. It's hard to eat healthy when you can't afford to buy your own food and you're depending on your mother to feed you, and junk is what she feeds you. People without a weight problem will never understand. But as for OP: Hide it. If it's not in your face you won't be as tempted to eat it.
I'll take the candy!
hehehehe Oh my. Well, if it were me, I'd eat the candy and then start the diet afterward. :D Think of it as your last sweet meal beforehand.

eh, start after the candy's gone.
How sweet, your mommy loves you.
