Today, I discovered that when my parents offered to help me pay for college, what they really meant is they would get the forms for me to apply for student loans. FML

To everyone saying get over it.... I will be seventeen when I start college. What kind of job can you get to pay for college when you're seventeen with no college education? See here's the thing, to pay you need a good job, and to get a good job you need college... OP: If your parents can't even afford to help pay, then that's a completely different story, but if they're rich and just don't feel like contributing at ALL, then FYL.

I call this a moment of misscommunication. When you offer to help pay for something it means you'll contribute some actual money to things. Like may be buying books. It also said that they OFFERED. She did not ASK them to. So, it's not her fault to expect that they give her money for certain things. I know when my children go to college I'll expect them to get a part time job, but I'd also HELP them pay for certain things. So, FYL for the fact your parents couldn't be clear on what they meant.

If getting a job is so hard, rob a bank. it's a win win! If you get caught, you can work on your education in prison, for free!!! if you don't, shit, you just robbed a bank and got away with it; the rewards of that are self-explanatory.

I got my CNA license and worked nights when I was 17 so I could go to college and get my RN. if u want it badly enough, you will find a way.

I'm a sixteen year old in college. I work at a fast food joint a block away from my school, and I sometimes have to change out of my scrubs and into my work uniform in my job's restroom. It is possible.

Op, even if your parents intended to pay your way through ten years of ivy league without a scholarship, you still should have clarified with them. Getting you forms was still helping, just not enough to satisfy your expectations, which wouldn't have been so high had you spoke with your parents a little more.

Well shit thise fowms are like filing taxes. Its nice of them to help out. Do you have any idea how much school costs? We're talking 10's of 1,000's sugar. I paid my own way through school but it gave me greater independence to not have to report my grades to mom

My college is all paid for by my parents, I guess I'm a 'spoiled little brat.' I'll save up to pay for my kids just the same one day. Your parents should'nt have mislead you OP.
