Today, I dyed my hair. And my forehead. And my ears. And my arms. And my hands. FML
I agree, your life sucks 39 101
You deserved it 24 890

MissDQ tells us more.

I've been dying my hair since I was 14, so know what I'm doing. I just now live in a tiny house with a tiny bathroom and my hair is just shy of my butt. I usually use a mirror to make sure I'm ok, but because of the length of my hair I have to do it upside down over the bathtub. It got on my arms while doing the main body of my hair, ears and forehead are a no brainier and I had a couple of spots drip down the gloves while I was doing the ends. I managed to get it off my face thankfully because I had to go out in public. The box said to use a wet towel with shampoo on it when you rinse it out, which I did and it didn't seem to be working so I attacked my face with exfoliating gloves and it did the job. I've now got to work out how to scrub the purple off the vanity and in the bathtub. I do wipe it straight away but it stains right away too. It's a super dark mahogany since I have to use 2 bottles. Looks blackish in the shade and red in the sun. Came out far better than I expected and I've never gone dark before so it's a nice change. Adds to the 'new me' thing I've got going.

Why is your hair shy of your butt? They both belong to the same girl, so the social awkwardness is unnecessary.

You're supposed to put the dye in your hair, not use it as bubble bath. I would ask if you were blonde, but that's a stupid stereotype. And I think it's a moot point now anyway.

I do that all the time, rub some baby oil on it and take awarm shower, it will come right off.

Bleach and sugar takes dye out of your skin

I've had hair that length before. It's so high maintenance. I'm glad it worked out well for you!

Congratulations on getting two FMLs published.

put vaseline around hairline, ears and such also, makeup wipes take dye off skin easiest for me, two rubs most and it's off as for tub staining, unavoidable really, sucks

Next time you get it on your skin try Vaseline. :) it works wonders.

Hairspray works to get the dye off, or 99% rubbing alcohol. The Vaseline is a good idea, I'm going to try that the next time I dye my hair. I feel your pain OP, hopefully you can get the dye off! Keep us posted!

You aren't having a very good week Miss DQ.

Why didn't you put vaseline on your ears and forehead before hand? Doesn't it say to.put on 'protective cream' on every bottle? It says that on mine.

if you happened to have any developer it's good for cleaning stains on surfaces and on skin. or while the dye is in your hair if you rub it around your hairline and then wipe it off it works pretty good. and sometimes you may have to shave the little hairs too because they get get dyed.

cryssycakesx3 22

another good tip, ammonia free dyes don't stain as much.

To get the stain out of the tub just use bleach

congrats on 2 published fmls? naw that's a tragedy if you think about it. an internet full of miserable people thinks your misery is noteworthy hahaha

Coat the tub in mineral oil before starting. It'll help reduce staining.

omg I dye my hair like the exact same shade!! :D ya getting it on your skin is a bitch

I had the same problem the other day. :( Dye can be a bitch when it stains (skin or the bathroom). Soak the stained spots on the counter with bleach and then wipe it down, it should do the job

@OP You know that Harpic White & Shine bleach gel you can get to clean the toilet? Put a few spots on the dye you spilled, and wipe it up a minute later. Works like magic :) I discovered this after I did a similar thing a few months back.

use anti-dandruff shampoo. it gets dye out of everything. i used the new clear by loreal and it got the mahogany dye off of everything. just dont use it in your hair obviously, it will strip it of the dye.

Try hydrogen peroxide in the bathtub. It works wonders on stains.

Next time, put a little Vaseline or baby oil on the areas where you think you might get dye on your skin. It may seem weird but it works or have it done at a salon! Really, try the baby oil or Vaseline!

And wear latex gloves instead of the cheap ones they put in hair dye boxes! It'll cost you a dollar but save a lot of trouble later!

Just do the rest of the tub and vanity. Then your friends will think you have good taste in putting wood looking rub and vanity in your bathroom. Might look better then you think but good luck getting it of your hands and what not

Are you dumb? She said her hair is 'just shy of my butt' meaning the length is almost to her butt. Not that her hair has a personality that's shy of her butt. How did you get so many thumbs up for this idiotic comment? Seriously.

Kinda wish I knew you so I could see the resulting hair color. After that fight with staining I hope it was worth it

to get rid of the stains on your bath tub use mold killer , it might sound weird but trust me it gets rid of it I've used it to get rid of dye stains from the shower and its worked .

I doubt you'll see this and I know you already have other tips, but I use Sea Breeze a lot to get color off my face and ears. It works pretty well without leaving icky residue or really harsh chemicals on your skin.

I totally went to you profile hoping to find a picture of your glorious sounding hair. No luck

Have you tried using Vim? That stuff is amazing when I dye my hair. Also exfoliating gloves and some baking powder works so so so well when getting it off your face, hands, ears, arms, fingers and whatever else you dye ?

I've found nail polish remover does a pretty good job at removing dye stains from my bathroom

Try soft scrub w/ bleach (you can find it at most stores it's a single cleaner) for the stains. I also dye my hair a lot, and usually that'll pull stains out of my counter.

You idiot. Sarcasm have any meaning to you? IT WAS A JOKE that's why their comment got so many thumbs up and yours got a bunch of thumb downs. Including mine. Are you that stupid or are you trying to be sarcastic back? Because you're failing...

Rubbing alcohol usually takes care of dye stains for me.

Sathane 21

"I've dyed my hair before so I know what I'm doing" - dyes entire body.

kimiirenee 17

loved that color when I had it. try using Mr Clean Magic Erasers to get it up. not sure if it'll work but they work for almost everything else (: good luck!

I think you might be the idiotic one here. It's called sarcasm. Please learn it, it makes life a lot more fun!

#219, they were making a humorous joke, and a joke that seems to have gone over your head at thay

mariri9206 32

you can buy wipes made specifically for removing hair color from your skin at a Sally's beauty supply. it's been several years since I needed/used one but I think it was running alcohol.

use vasoline to avoid future dye mishaps. also get super cheap towels and lay them where you are dying your hair to avoid future stains.

toothpaste gets hair dye off anything! let it sit for a bit and you'll be good

magickiss87 22

Running alcohol will work to get it off of the skin. Good luck getting it off of anything else.

I use a dry washcloth with baby shampoo, it works better than any other soap, and I just wipe around the hair line Nd ears and back of neck and it gets the little drips or smudges right off. :) also works for the counter and walls as well (as long as its immediate)

Baby wipes work great for getting it off the skin.

Korra_fml 23

OP.. didnt you just get stuck in a shirt a few days ago??

Yes. This is considered a good week..

Korra_fml 23

o.o if that's a "good" week, for goodness sake, dont ever try a home bikini wax... it just might end up like the story of a lady that i read in an email where she ended up glued to her bath tub and had to call a friend to help her get unstuck (im sure it was made up, but still...)

I just reread that story about the bikini wax. It still makes me laugh my ass off!

Don't try to give yourself a brazilian!

ckosemund 11

uh I did that once, thought i'd just wash it out while taking a regular shower.. Boy oh boy was I wrong.. Also I had driving lessons later that day.. Made my instructors day I think x)

Putting conditioner on areas that might get dye on them beforehand will help in the future

In the future OP, before you use the dye, tie up your hair and smear a thing layer of Vaseline all around your hairline and the back of your ears. For now, if you have a alcohol based facial toner, I find soaking a cotton makeup pad with that and then firmly rubbing the stained areas will work the best for removing the stain from the skin, and most definitely don't use bleach or any of the other household based cleansers on your skin as some of the others have suggested, you might remove the dye but its probably going to be replaced by a rash from the chemical burn you'll get.

OP iv been here. Its not fun, and it burns in your eyes.
