You don't give a five year old the responsibility of a pet you ******* idiot. It's your responsibility to make sure the rabbit has a clean cage, hay, water and gets to go outside of the cage at least a couple of hours for the next five to ten years. Your child will most likely grow tired of the rabbit in a year and then the pet is all yours.
Does your last name happen to be Fudd? And is your son's name Elmer?
Your son is thinking very efficiently, if he learns that the easy way isn't always the best way he's gonna get far in life ^^
Did OP buy said rabbit and then tell the kid how to take care of it? If so, I feel like they should have informed the kid of what owning his own rabbit entailed beforehand.
Rabbit is actually very delicous.
Well if he can eat his pet then you know he could survive on the wild!
That's what rabbits are for, anyway.
That is almost like my sister, when she was four or so and we had just owned turkeys that our parents made very clear that we were going to eat one day. Dad showed up and told us that he'd gotten a bunny for us and she bursted out "Yay, they're delicous!"
5 years is too young to look after a pet, kids are still learning to take care of yourself. Maybe you should share responsibilities with him, so he doesn't create such solutions xD

At least you know he'll do well in survival situations. Next thing you know, he'll be testing out recipes with the neighbor's hamster, and the snake he found in the backyard.
As an owner of two bunnies, I can tell you that they're high maintenance. Definitely not a good pet for a young child.
