Today, I finally decided to get my five-year-old son a rabbit, so I explained to him how to take care of it. When I'd finished listing all the things he'd have to do, he replied, "That's too complicated... Couldn't we just eat it instead?" FML

At least you know he'll do well in survival situations. Next thing you know, he'll be testing out recipes with the neighbor's hamster, and the snake he found in the backyard.

As an owner of two bunnies, I can tell you that they're high maintenance. Definitely not a good pet for a young child.

hahaha loving children when they are like that

He is going places! Learning how to deal with problems early on.

5 is little to young for a rabbit; wait until he's 10 for one. Try a fancy rat instead, they make the best pets.

As someone who has owned hamsters, gerbils, mice, and rats, the rats were by far the best. Never mean, would perch on your shoulder, never bit. They're incredibly smart and you can teach them tricks too!

Maybe a turtle would have been better. Also maybe he was a hunter in his past life. Kids remember theirs easier than adults do.

Turtles are a lot more tougher to take care of than a rabbit. I had one when I was a little girl.

Rabbits are not good pets for young children they require a lot of maintenance attention and lots of time out of the cage. kids tend to get bored of them.quick like many other things and the rabbit will be stuck in the cage for years. They can live up till around 7. I had a bunny and they do require lots of attention and care

They actually can live up to 12 years with proper care.

He's five. You can't expect him to care for an animal.

You should have got an easier pet... Rabbits are complicated

I think you should've talked to your son before you decided to get him a pet. YDI, Op.
