Today, I finally decided to get my five-year-old son a rabbit, so I explained to him how to take care of it. When I'd finished listing all the things he'd have to do, he replied, "That's too complicated... Couldn't we just eat it instead?" FML

At least you know he'll do well in survival situations. Next thing you know, he'll be testing out recipes with the neighbor's hamster, and the snake he found in the backyard.

As an owner of two bunnies, I can tell you that they're high maintenance. Definitely not a good pet for a young child.

And he will say, quote, "of course you know this means war."

all animals are food somewhere in the world

Yeaaaahh!!! With some buttermilk biscuits and some rabbit gravy!

YDI. You shouldve made your kid fully aware of the responsibilities that comes with owning a rabbit way before actually getting one. I bet he'd have said no long before this.

YDI for even thinking about getting a Rabbit for a ******* 5year old. That's not a pet for children.

thats why you don't force pets to your kids..

You said you decided to get him one; did you actually do so before explaining to him the responsibilities it would entail? Or did you do that after you bought the rabbit for him? If the latter, I'd return it to the pet store so that a proper owner can adopt it. As for your son wanting to eat it...you know, most serial killers start off by killing animals and then escalating to people.

It's the ciiiiiiirclleeeeee of liiiiife...!
