Today, I finally had enough money to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring, which I was going to pick up after work. On my way to work, I slid on the ice and crashed into a parked vehicle. The damage to my car is almost twice the amount of the ring. FML

Where are people getting the idea he was WALKING? Damage to HIS vehicle means he was DRIVING.

I would take that as a sign. Although you could always just propose another time.

You probably don't have enough savings to settle down.. Think about it.

you don't need to have lots of money to settle down.

Damn it must be cuz I'm on my iPod. . .and yes I did spell stupid wrong thanks 4 nothing

Insurance should cover it. If your car is worth more than $2500, you should have full coverage. Based on the fact that the damages are DOUBLE the cost of an engagement ring, and you didn't mention that the car is totalled, the car was probably worth more than that. YDI for being irresponsible with your money. Opt for the rental car coverage, too. $4 a month shouldn't break the bank, but spending $30 a day while your car's in the shop for 3 weeks will hurt like a bitch.

YDI, for not driving responsibly. YDI if you don't have insurance. YDI if you have insurance with a high deducible. YDI if you were getting a crappy, cheap ring -- but have a low deductible. I don't see how this could ever be anything *but* a YDI

Wow people. Driving on ice is dangerous no matter how good of a driver you are.

Spoken like a true southerner. Let me guess -- you live somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line, and rarely, if ever see snow or ice, let alone drive on it? A little bit of common sense driving on ice goes a long way -- and YDI if you don't maintain control of your vehicle.

That's why he should have had better insurance.

the OP is from British Columbia, stupid

I have lived in Florida for most of my life. I lived in New York for 4 years jackass and that was fairly recent. And I take vacations there all the time. So yes, I have seen snow, walked on ice, been driven on buses, cabs (those people scare me). There is no way I'm driving in New York unless it was the country in the summer let alone during winter with all the snow storms happening. And driving in rain is no picnic either, especially since Florida gets hit with tropical storms all the time.

Thought so. Try driving in a place with snow a few times, and you will grow out of the unreasonable fear of it.

There is always an unreasonable fear for me driving no matter what. It still doesn't mean ice isn't as dangerous as rained out roads, though the rain and oil combo doesn't help much. This whole conversation makes me miss the snow though.

Not when you factor in the cost of V.D.

What kind of a cheap ass engagement ring were you going to get?
