I agree with perdix. "Can't" get your courage up again? I guess not since you've already decided. You knew you were overweight and this can't be the first fat joke you've ever heard. Stop making excuses and go. Incidentally, all of you suggesting treadmills, do you have any idea how much they cost? OP might not be able to afford it or even have room for it.
Running is cool but... that's not really gonna help you if you eat junk food or something not healthy. So I just hope you are also working on a "diet" (I don't think a real diet is needed, just eat less junk food and it's all good)
Agree about changing the eating habits, buy at least running is one of the best exercises you can do to lose weight and is a hell of a lot better than doing nothing.
But some people are just naturally inclined to be fatter than others. I could eat junk all the time and stay skinny but my best guy friend tries to eat healthy and still gains weight.

This is what's wrong with society. They actively bash people for being fat, and then bash them some more when they try to lose weight.
