Today, I finished installing a brand new engine in my old car. It cost just over $6000. Later, I was waiting at a red light and an uninsured drunk driver smashed into it head on. It's completely totaled. I got to drive it 5 miles. The car is worth $1000, even with a new engine. FML

:( Ugh. I'm sorry. Your insurance should cover most of it, right? This is why we need to have stricter rules in the US about drunk drivers... esp. uninsured ones!

Dude, if he doesnt have insurance that automatically means it's his fault (although it is his fault) and he has to pay for everything. But fyl until everything is taken care of.

why dont u take the engine out the car that way u can recover some of the money since the engine would probably be worth something if it wasnt damaged

My only recommendation is to sue the driver. He might be in trouble for drunks, and it's doubtful he'll pay the 6k, but I would bet that you could at least ruin him financially and borrowing money or taking out a credit card.

ughhh I feel your pain. a drunk driver hit my car while it was parked and even though the damage is not that bad it still cost more money to fix it than my car is worth. it really sucks.

what kind of car is it? why would you let them rip 6k from you, why did you put a new engine in a crapcan?

I think that putting a new engine in to a old car is a good idea simply because it increases the value of a car that is probably very old and valuable. ;)

I honestly shed a tear for this FYL dude FYL :'( </3

why the hell would you spend 6x car value when u could of gotten a new car for a third of that .... YDI

maybe the car meant more to him maybe it has sentimental value to him....food for thought

Spend $6k on a car that is only worth $1k? Can't fathom why someone would be that stupid. You deserved it.

No, dumbass, the car in its TOTALED state now (which means AFTER the crash) is only worth $1000. It was worth a lot more than that in the state it was before the other driver wrecked into his car.
