Today, I forgot my boyfriend was allergic to nuts and ate Nutella toast before he arrived. He had just brought me flowers for doing well in an exam and I kissed him. He had a reaction and I had to stab him in the leg. FML

Had this happen to me. Not fun at all. Hope he's okay and don't feel too bad, you forgot. It happens occasionally

Should have made your username "nut hunter." Really missed your chance there

Hopefully he's doing fine now. On the plus side though, you get to tell people you stabbed your boyfriend! Just imagine the pranks you could pull with that.

don't take it out on yourself; it was an accident and you were saving him

Yeah....and she was the one that almost killed him. She Needs to feel bad about it so she'll Learn from it.

Sh wouldn't have had to save him if she hasn't almost killed him in the first place...

Nothing brings you closer than saving your boyfriend with an epipen.

....and almost killing him with negligence...

My boyfriend has a pineapple allergy it isn't severe, but I wouldn't risk eating pineapple before seeing him :(

You saved his life. Dont get yourself down. Im sure he knows it was on accident.

That's not how karma usually works

I hope you'll be more careful next time. Because Epi Pens aren't guaranteed to work. It's fortunate that his did or he would have died. You'll need to adjust your lifestyle too for his safety- not just food, but things like lotions or shampoo. Anything with extra vitamin E likely has nut oil. Shea butter? That is a nut product. Want to go out to eat? Better make sure the place doesn't cook with nut oil. .....even burger joints do sometimes. It seems like a lot to consider, but I'm sure he will help you adapt. you get used to checking labels and avoiding certain products after a while.

I'm severely allergic to nuts, and epipens are guaranteed to work for enough time to get to a hospital. The drug opens your airway and stops the production of histamines. Also, as long as you are at a decent restaurant (no street food) almost all places accommodate for allergies.

Yah her comment seemed a little over board. My husbands allergic to bees and should have an epi pen but he won't have it and doesn't worry about it. In 7 years he's never been stung by a bee since I've known him. I've had more reactions to chocolate than he's had to bees.

Ya, if you're going to go out with someone with that severe of an allergy, than op needs adapt to his lifestyle. Cut out all nuts. That way you won't have an accident like this (which is totally understandable and can easily happen; everyone makes mistakes) again. Plus if you marry him you'd have to adapt anyway.

I do carry an epi pen for bee stings and severe food allergies including nuts. I've also been administered epinephrine. The rate of failure is pretty low, but can happen for a number of reasons- mechanical, user error, having it for too long, not timing the injection right, and sometimes resistance to the medication, etc. Complications from epinephrine can also be quite severe in some patients. For me, it agitates heart arrythmia, which could potentially be fatal. For others, renal failure could occur. So yeah epipen is great for increasing your odds of surviving something you'd otherwise definitely die from. But it's not something to take lightly. It's not the same as taking medicine for a headache or something. Avoidance of the allergen is the best.

you think she doesn't know all this? damn leave the girl alone

If i was allergic to nutella, i would die. Literally

If you were allergic you wouldn't know what it tastes like.

I used to not be allergic to things I'm allergic to now, like peanuts. But, the WORST is missing shellfish. Things like nutella can be made with substitutes... but even imitation crab has bits of crab in it.

I'm allergic to other kinds of nuts, but I still can't eat Nutella in case of contamination. Before I found out I was allergic to nuts, I ate Nutella, so I had 14 years of Nutella even so i am allergic.
