Today, I found out my 12 year old daughter is going through a bit of an "emotional" stage. I got a call from her school saying she was sitting in the corner at recess trying to cut her wrist. With a plastic spoon. FML

It isn't really important that she used a plastic spoon. If she wants to cut her wrist (and/or even commit suicide) she has a big issue. Please, take it seriously. Even kids can get in a depression, search help to get her back out again.

That...that is silly. However, you still should get that checked out. When I was 8, I threatened to kill myself with a butter knife (thought the butcher knives would hurt too much) and as ridiculous as it was, it was just before my onset of serious depression that I still struggle with.

GODDAMN. That goes deeper than just some basic issue. You should talk to her and make sure everything is right in her life

You're kid is 12 and still has recess? That's weird. On a different note, keep an eye on her. This could get serious.

Oh my gosh u shud really talk 2 her bcuz next time it won't be a plastic spoon but a serrated chef's knife

You shouldn't be joking about that. It's not funny. Seriously. When my mom found out she cut she didn't go as post a FML she got me help. Get her help.

Don't focus on plastic spoon , focus in TRYING TO CUT HERSELF.

She never got enough love as a child *cop out

Even plastic spoons can be dangerous if someone wants to hurt themselves badly enough. It's also not always just an attention-seeking or a suicide attempt/gesture. It could also be the beginnings of self-harm. (A way of externalizing inner pain/feelings.) I would take her to her general practitioner and talk with them about it. A psych dr or even just talking with a guidance counselor could really help. Hope everything works out safely.

i wonder what is the worst thing in this situation the fact that she failed at comitting suicide or the fact she was stupid enou gh to believe a plastic spoon, not even a platic knife, would be sharp enough for her to cut her wrist and bleed out
