Today, I found out my work gave me a vacation for my performance. It's a trip to somewhere in the Caribbean, with the nickname "The Sunniest Place on Earth." I have skin cancer. FML

I hear the Arctic is pretty nice at this time of the year.

Ummm... Well then you have nothing to lose if you go.

Be grateful that you are alive and you get to experience something beautiful while your life has hit a tad of a grey patch

Take an umbrella and lots of sunscreen, and try to have a good time. Good luck!

Looks like this is a vacation from hell...and it also looks like they are trying to probably loose you and or burn you away... I know those were the worst puns ever..,I'll take thumbs downs...

Skin cancer or not, how can a trip to the Caribbean even be close to an FML

Actually I think Florida is named that, but so my best friend has skin cancer and we go places all the time. Doesn't stop you from being outside, if your that big of a baby then only go out at night.

It isn't being a baby to try to follow the medical advice of your doctor. One thing that doctors recommend to a person with skin cancer is to stay out of the sun, because the treated skin is very sensitive. If your friend has skin cancer that he or she is being treated for and is still being unsafe in the sun, then he or she is an idiot.

Yes it's unsafe for the person to just sit outside and tan, not unsafe for them to go outside, that's my point. I'm not saying to go put a swimsuit on, lay out and enjoy your vacation. I'm saying its not a big deal and its not like the company did it because they had sun cancer it was because OP is good at their job.

You're totally looking at this the wrong way, OP. Your company is recognizing your hard work and dedication. It's not like they're out to **** with you. Most of those packages (that I've ever been involved with) were transferable or able to be credited to a different vacation spot. While it might seem shitty on the face of things, check into the details before you decide it's such a bad thing.

Skin cancer doesn't mean you can't go someplace sunny for vacation, I have every year (I've been battling stage IV melanoma for 8yrs now x2 relapse). To me that would be like saying you can't breath because you have lung cancer -_- there is sun everywhere, it's called protecting yourself, so instead of whining because the company did something nice (they didn't have to do squat) get your meds, protection, and bags packed and go!

No, but when you get lung cancer, you stop smoking.

So the people with the hole in their throats still smoking are.....?

If it were me, I'd say screw it and do it anyway. Just because you have cancer doesn't mean you stop doing everything. You should jump on any opportunity that comes your way. Life is short, enjoy it

Wear long sleeves and take plenty of sun screen.
