I have no moral problem with age differences (considering I prefer older men myself), however I would have a huge problem if one of my parents married my best friend or married someone my age. Age differences aren't necessarily "wrong" but they do have social complications whether or not people admit it. Age isn't always "just a number" when it comes to these situations. I prefer older men but I'd never marry one with kids, especially kids my own age.
Well, if it isn't this FML again. Honestly, this has to be one of the most commonly repeated FML scenarios.
38 is fairly young to have an 18 year old kid. Not impossibly young, but still young. Anyway, I agree with #85, the issue with partners with large age differences is social acceptance, but there's nothing actually morally wrong with it. 20 year isn't an INCONCEIVABLE age difference, after all. However, because she's peers with you, and in fact best friends with you, it definately creates issues with the family dynamic.
Oh, also, if they weren't previously dating/courting each other (which I imagine they weren't else you probably would have mentioned it) that IS creepy. Like he just proposed out of the blue and she just accepted out of the blue, and you had no clue that it was coming?
what a ****!
DNW.
That's disgusting. If I was a friend of yours, I would totally help you break up their relationship. It seems like your father is in it for her age, while she is in it for his money. Gross!
I don"t see anything wrong with the age difference, because I like older men myself (I'm 18), but I would be completely wierded out if one of my friends and my dad became a couple. I guess the best thing you can do is talk to her about it, but if she and your dad love each other, then thats their buisness.
I think you should talk to her about it, or talk to your dad about it. That is creepy.... and weird. I don't care about the age difference... That's no big. It's just the respect your best friend gives back to you that shocks me... What i mean by this is that she should take in mind how YOU feel.. she's acting like the entire world revolves around herself and your father. Talk to them, see what they say, and like #92 says, if they are in love, don't push it, because that is their business
eh on the bright side atleast you and her will have and awesome mother daughter friendship

that's just....messed up...that makes your 'best friend' your step mom if the marriage actually happens.
So your dad's a perv and your friends a *****. Better to find out late than never :D FYL.
