As sad as it is, maybe he didn't want to be a part of OP's life or maybe he just didn't know. The OP's mother could have had an affair, gotten pregnant from it and decided not to tell her husband/ significant other.

Its Not everyday you get to move away from your parents , only to move next door to your biological father .a more interesting story would of been how you found out that he is your father .
