Today, I found out why my parents have been trying to convince me not to go to college this year. I also found out where the $20,000 they just spent on landscaping came from. My college fund. Which is now $0. FML

some parents only care about themselves.but majority does care about their kids' education. my cousin's whole saving was spent by his parents which was probaley 5k. but if they had a chance to spendthe money he got from a car accident. they wouldnt hesitate.

Hey, that’s what the military is good for, college money, at least in the U.S. Find a nice cushy desk job, like maybe the Chair Force or Coast Guard, suck it up for 4 years, and your good to go. I'm about to finish my masters, didn’t cost me a cent. All my friends who went straight to college all have massive student loans to pay off and are struggling to keep their heads above water. I'm taking a 3 week Caribbean vacation next month, celebrating the new house I just bought.

Sorry but there must be a reason they don't want you to go to college ! Maybe they need help aroud the house so therefore it's not that big a fml so therefore ydi

I'm hoping the GI Bill will save me. I'm not going for a desk job, though because isn't the GI Bill for troops returning from combat?

Nope. It was actually just changed. Previously it was optional for every member. They would take $100 a month out of your first year, and that would buy you into the program. Now its called the post 9/11 bill or something. Basically, its automatic and you dont have to buy into it. Benefits are 100% tuition covered, 15 years to use it, can be transferred to dependents (spouse or kids) and you receive E5+dependant housing allowance while going to school full time (thats a good $2,000/month where I'm at).

You can only transfer it to your spouse if you've been active duty for at least 6 years and then re-enlist for another 4...how do I know? My husband tried to sign over his GI Bill to me so I can get a Master's in the States... -_-

False also if you are stationed over seas, like my hubby and move back to a state where this is allowed. We get 1000 a month and he gets free tuition at a four year college.

Or you could just pay for your own schooling you free-loading piece of shit.

They don't want him to go to college because they spent all the money they saved up for him. So now they can't afford it without debt. How did you not get that?

man If I could like that more than once I would!

don't worry. obama will take care of that. stupid shittt

You're kidding, right? College costs a shit load of money, and you have college savings for a reason. Your parents and relatives put money into them voluntarily, they shouldn't really just take it out. Bullshit. FYL.

oh right, and i bet you paid your way through college right?

He never said it was his parents money. I'm assuming it was his money, thus rendering your argument irrelevant.

Well you could 'assume' anything. I could 'assume' he's a terrorist and intended to blow up his first class, thus making it a good thing he's not going. To assume is to make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me' xD

When you say "in Britain we pay for our own courses" it makes it sound like there's no single person in Britain that had their college education paid by their parents. I highly doubt that's true. On a sidenote, in Germany parents ARE obligated to pay for their child's first education after highschool, whether it's college or tradeschool, etc. If they can't afford it, the government helps out and depending on how fast and how good you graduate you may not even have to pay back the full amount. And whatever you do have to pay back is also matched to whatever job you're working afterwards and how much you're making...

Comments like this are so retarded, if your parents had said they'd pay for it, then randomly at the last second blew all the money on crap, you'd be pissed too, don't lie and say you wouldn't.

Ironic term, Jason. A big part of the cost of landscaping was big bags of shit.

just kidding. didnt see you live in canada.

On their lawn. Spend the money on their lawn, instead of buying food for them or smthn... :D

Financial aid sucks and if the op's parents spent 20,000 on their lawn the loans issued will be unsubsidized, meaning lots of interest. It's not fun.

Financial aid only takes into account how much money your parents have, how much you have, and how much you think you'll be paying for school and how much you think your parents will be paying. It doesn't factor in things like this or any sort of debt. And it's too late for financial aid for first semester at least.

Awh, you poor thing. I'd confront them and ask why they did it, because they must have an excuse for doing something like that.. unless they're just a little insensitive. I hope you do get to go to college. ~Lilz x

Piss all over their precious lawn. And when they're away, steal all of their electronics and sell them. Your parents would never suspect you, you're their kid. Really though, I hope you never visit your parents when their old. And don't pay for them to go to a senior home after they retire and have little money left. Spend the money on your lawn!

That's weird. I was replying to a comment by "ClumsyJason" who called the parents "big bags of shit." Somehow that comment disappeared, but my response didn't.

your parents must be brain dead. also was this YOUR money or was it something they were saving for you? btw they need to DIAF
