Today, I googled for an hour how to open my CD player on my laptop. Turns out, there is none. They just put a space there to make it look like a CD player. FML

They're starting to make more and more laptops without CD drives now especially the macbooks. Just buy an external usb DVD drive it works the same way.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! I thought mine did too.

I recently bought a laptop with no tray either. I'm disappointed as well OP.

Wow look at how far technology has come. so advanced.

What in the world did you buy? I was unaware that they still made laptops without cd drives anymore.

They've been doing so since at least mid-last year, so it is a somewhat new thing

Whoa, they make laptops without CD/DVD drives nowadays? **** this shit, I'll build my own computer next. Speaking of building computers and DVD drives, it reminded me of my time as an IT student where a guy in my class managed to insert 6 CD drives into one computer and made them all work...

Lol the computers used to all come without a cd drive.

It's really not that big of a deal, you can still get a cheap cd/dvd port that connects via USB.

Well, USB slots are limited on laptops and I have a ton of devices to connect. I'm thankful my laptop has a CD/DVD drive even tho I don't need it much.

It's not there to look like a CD/DVD/BRD drive... It's there as a space holder for a CD/DVD/BRD drive. Some of that general model have it and some don't. So on the ones that don't they just cover that slot with a piece of plastic the same shape as the drive that would fill it if so equipped.
