I see your point and I sorta agree with the "asshole" part. I think it's a little wrong when kids come to *expect* a gift. (which as kids I know we all do/did) as was said, it's not an obligation. kids should be grateful to get presents, but I think too many count on them and get bent out of shape if they don't.
My mom always made an effort to sent me a gift on my birthday-- usually something small, but personal, that she knew I would enjoy. It was nice to know she put thought into something for me, even if I was an adult who lived 2,000 miles away. Of course, I always did the same for her birthday, so it was reciprocal. It's definitely not obligatory for parents to get their children gifts, but it's nice to get something from your parents, especially when you don't see them as often as you'd like.
I've been there. Nothing says 'I love you' like 'here's a box of your crap' ;)
I agree with both you guys. Kids should be taught to appreciate presents and the things they have. I actually wrote a children's story recently about that. And yeah, when you're an adult, gifts do tend to become reciprocal between children and parents. It's that way with me and my parents too.
well you got all your stuff back..that's obw way of looking at it...
thays not that big of an FML. its not even bad......
I received a similar package just recently. Parents can be jerks. Needless to say I don't talk to my mother often.
I wish my parents had done that for me. I had things promised to be held onto lost or stolen because of lack of care for my belongings after I left. You are really lucky IMO.
Isn't that a nice a gift? You get your good old memories back. Also, at least they didn't throw it out. Unless it's absolute junk, I think you should be happy. (:
Don't feel bad, my parents hate me too.

That's actually a pretty good present. At least they didn't sell your stuff.
What did they say about your *****?
