Today, I got a call from a prominent orchestra asking me to play with them. They were especially interested because I'm still in high school. I called to accept only to find out that my mother had already declined the offer for me because I "only" have a 3.7. FML

Judging by your name, I assume you play the bass. That makes this suck even more because the standup bass is an amazing instrument that takes a ton if talent and finesse to play well, especially well enough to be invited into a prestigious orchestra. I hope that you insisted on still playing with them! FYL indeed, I'd be both angry and sad in that situation.

FYL. Just... FYL. We should probably have a category for "meddling parents" ._. what's up with that, really?

Missed the joke. Violin = musical instrument, cymbal = musical instrument. It's a pun, get it?

if you got a 4.0 gpa i'd say FYL. otherwise YDI

I'd say a 3.7 GPA and having that much musical talent, which requires a lot of practice, is impressive.

Personally I wouldn't care if my kid had a 1.0 GPA. I'd be like f*** it! Your doing this.

tell her u will fail every test until she says yes

Oh yeah, because screwing her chances of getting into a college far away from that bitch is a real mature way to handle this. OP, how old are you? 'cause if you're like 17-18, this shouldn't be your mom's choice and you should be able to fight it. I hope you get your seat back, even if your mom's a psycho you still deserve it.

Even if the OP was able to fight it, I don't think there was anything they could do, because it sounded like the orchestra made up their minds. Nobody deserves this. Besides, you don't know what her/his mom is like, neither do I (but that's beside the point). If the OP can't join anything becuase they're a few points behind a 4.0, imagine what would happen if they tried to go against her. >_>

my ur moms bone into a xylophone and then try and join again

I feel your pain T-T When I was 14 my dad declined my spot on the Queensland Rep Team for Netball because - and this is a direct quote - "There is too much travel involved" ... the irritating thing is if it were either of my brothers being picked for a state squad for any game he would have wished them luck and sent them on their way
