Today, I got a job selling knives. I had training for 11 hours. At the end of the training session, the instructor promptly informed everyone that they had to pay $145 for a set of demo knives. I paid the $145. I went home and learned that it was a scam. I went back for a refund. They said no. FML

i hate vector. it was my fault i was sold with what they told me. first 6 months were great when i was completely ignorant. as someone said, it's great money for someone who works their ass off. but the bullshit you go through, may not be worth it. technically i still work for them since i know it's easy money in a really tight spot. but i gotta turn into a complete asshole when i sell those knives.

same thing almost happened to me. then my bf found a page online about how it was a scam.

was the company cutco knives. yeah my brother was scammed, too . they lied to him though....

Ok, I USED to work for Vector, and while their hiring practice is a bit like a pyramid scheme they are not all that bad of people to work for. You do actually have to do some work, but I live in a rural area (lots of driving) and kept track of expenses and time for the summer and I managed to make a decent amount of money at it. As for the quality of the product, my mom owns a set of Cutco knives that were passed down to her from her grandmother and are around 50 years old. They kind of need to be sharpened, but they are still solid, reliable tools. When you leave the company you are free to sell your knives back to them, or sell them on your own, but why not keep a nice, cheap set of knives for your apartment? If nothing else, where can you get that many quality knives for $150?

Cutco and Vector worked for me. I just didn't have my license and couldn't drive to appts. But the ones I was able to get rides to worked in my favor.

Dont feel bad at least u werent the only one who felt for this crap i have 3 friends that felt for it, self included so since then i google every company i try to go out for if its not a franchise. Oh and by the way those knives? YEAH not that good my mom had them for like 3 months and they were already dull but weirdly enough the ones we bought for cheaper are still working.... VECTOR MARKETING CAN GO TO HELL

so ill say it up front, i work for Vector and i like it. I do admit having to buy the kit is a little shady and sucks, but i made my money back in four appointments, plus i did two more that day and made more money on top of it. also, since you buy the knives, you get to keep them. if you didnt buy them, youd have to turn them back in. i only sold to a few family members, and now im working off of people i dont know, and my average order is still over 350. I only do a few appointments a week, but i make enough to get me by. Of course the job is cheesy, its a SALES JOB. thats what most people dont understand. Sales takes alot of time outside of your actual appointments, but im taking summer classes and still have tons of free time for myself. I also think IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE OFFICE AND THE MANAGER. there are tons of offices nationwide, and each one is a little different. but my manager is awesome, and he NEVER FORCES me to work when i dont want to. also, the quality of the knives is pretty decent, and the guarantee covers them literally forever, so the price isnt all that outrageous. Basically, i would really take all these comments with a grain of salt, because alot of people who say such negative things probably havent actually applied themselves to the job. Its also not the greatest job, but im in college, and i dont have to flip burgers or do manual labor, all i do is talk, and i set my schedule. i dont understand why students who need those kind of accomodations dont realize how flexible and accomidating the job really is. i know this is just an opinion. but i dont have any problems with the company whatsoever. the people are great. im just trying to justify that its going to be a different experience for everyone. the people who complain probably didnt do well while they worked there for the first few days or weeks, or they werent in a good office, so their views will be jaded. and i admit i also have a construed view of the job because ive done well for what i need, but ill try to make an unbiased generalization. Vector is great if you want extra money, and want a very flexible part time job. Although i wouldnt recomend it for a full time job, there are alot of advancements, and some people who apply themselves and like the job really do well. And for all of you who think its a scam. from experience i can tell you it really isnt. its just a sales job. which many people make a living off of. Examples: Real Estate and Business Agents and brokers, Lawyers(they sell people, or peoples stories), Insurance salespeople. Now these are some of the wealthiest people overall in our nation. So i believe is a good starting block for future jobs like the ones i just listed. And the sales pitch is really laid back. Its really a no pressure approach. although some of you may think it is, you probably dont have previous sales knowledge, where you would consider pressure and pushiness as simple negotiation. also i believe that there are probably a few salesmen that dont follow the guidelines, just as in any job, so taking opinions from them or making opinions about the job from the way they work is just ludicrous. My biggest suggestion to anyone is: Try it out if youre interested. it never hurts to try, and youll never know if you like it unless you try it. and if you dont, i promise that if youre in a good office and you dont like the job, they will refund youre set. A job like this takes time and effort, but it could be really rewarding for the amount of work that you do. I saw in earlier posts that people think these are automated messages or a copy and paste deal. but i assure you that i just wrote this off the cuff, and i stand behind my words 100% If you actually took the time to read this entire thing, thank you for your consideration. email me if you have any questions([email protected]) but also be respectful. I like my job Thank you.

omg that scam has been out forever. They probably asked you to pay for your background test too. nice

DONT YOU EVER SAY THAT VECTOR IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a college student st Michigan State and have been working here for 2 years now. I was never a really great sales rep, but i have been able to pay off my first 3 (yes 3) years of college so far WITHOUT ANY LOANS OR HELP OF ANY SORT. So for those of you who think its a scam to have to put a DEPOSIT down for the set before you use it are straight up RETARDED. Oh yeah, and what other company could allow a 19 year student to go out for a summer and RUN THEIR OWN OFFICE and make $30,000 PROFIT just for school??? If you are dumb enough to think this is a scam, come find me and ill beat some sense into you. come email me at [email protected] I love this job, i wouldnt trade it for the world
