Today, I got a ticket for driving without insurance. I gave the cop my insurance information, but he said it was invalid because it didn't show an expiration date. When I pointed out the information he was looking for, he ignored me and gave me a ticket anyway. FML

You should be able to get that thrown out pretty easily

The cop was using you to fill his quota, and assuming you wouldn't take it to court. You should and it'll get thrown out. Court is quite likely less expensive than the ticket, and your record will stay clean.

As long as you can prove you were insured at the time of the ticket, it'll get tossed out.

Everyone says fight it in court but that dick of an officer is still going to make you drive across town and take a day off work to fight it. I'd report him to his superiors. And FYI, I have a dashcam for exactly this reason (they're on Amazon for like $70). Keep that bitch recording. That cop should be serving and protecting, not harassing.

It is illegal in some states to video and/or audio record someone without their consent.

Not cops when they are on duty at least all you have to say is that that you are recording this interaction you can also use your phone and as long as you aren't getting in his or hers face then you should be fine though if they try and take it don't resist just ether take it to court as it's illegal for a cop to do that or report them if you can't be bothered for court

You don't have to take it to court. All you need to do is go to the clerk and show that you were in fact insured and they will remove it without having to appear. Then you should file a complaint. You should not have to pay any court costs associated with this as it should be thrown out by the clerk since proof is given. You can also get a letter from your insurance company to show your exact dates of coverage.

We had to go to court because a cop gave my teen daughter a ticket for not turning her brights off fast enough (she was coming over the top of a hill and there he was). She was so flustered that she couldn't find her insurance info. When I saw her ticket, I realized that he had put the wrong auto information on it! Wrong make, wrong color, wrong style! We HAD to go to court because she couldn't produce insurance info for a car we don't own!

Take it to court and complain on the officer

Ugh I hate that. Some cops would rather ticket an innocent person that admit they made a mistake.

Just echoing what everyone else is saying here. As long as you prove you had insurance coverage on the date you received the ticket, you'll be fine. An insurance ID card may not suffice though, you may want to get a notarized letter from an underwriter at your insurance company that explicitly states you had coverage on the date in question and had no lapses.
