Today, I got dragged along to a family dinner. Some idiot invited my douchebag vegan uncle, who spent half the night making condescending remarks and lecturing us on how disgusting it was to have steak on offer at the table. A fistfight eventually erupted, and the cops were called. FML

Most vegans I know are very arrogant and annoying.

Hey, vegetables have feelings too; I've heard they grow better when sung to. This is why I subsist on a diet of water and dirt.

That's why he added 'douchebag'; to show that not all vegans are like that, but his uncle is

I would of bitch slapped him! Yeah Ive had the same lecturing Vegan bullshit! My philosophy: if you eat meat great, if you don't eat meat great, but either way keep your personal choice/opinion/comments to yourself and enjoy whats on your own plate and stop worrying about what's on everyone else's!

Ugh i hate how some people think because they don't eat meat they are better then everyone else. If humans aren't meant to eat meat why do animals taste so good?

I dated a vegan once. His only source of protein was his own produce. Plus he never washed his veggies because the manure-rests contains vitamin B-12. And then there is the mom who wouldn't breast feed her baby because milk isn't vegan. The baby died. What is up with this vegan shit?

Seems like people here are not aware of why most vegans are vegans. It's not because "OH THAT POOR BUNNY IT'S SO CUTE I CAN'T EAT IT!!" but because the way animals are brought up and slaugthered under really awful conditions. It's just inhumane. Why would we have the right to keep animals in such conditions just because we are "meant to eat meat"? Eat organic or wild-caught meat instead.

I agree that the conditions we raise food animals in are often not ideal, so even though I still eat meat and animal products I fully respect other people's decision not to. At the same time, I believe this respect needs to go both ways. Diet is a personal choice, and sometimes there are medical or financial reasons that prevent someone from making a major change even if they wanted to. The majority of vegans and vegetarians I've met realize that and only bring the subject up if we're discussing food, but in every group there's always a handful of loud douchebags who give everyone else a bad reputation. Look at any religion or lifestyle choice and you'll see the same thing. It's not "vegans" or "Christians" or anything else- it's just people.

I'm a former vegan (now pescetarian) but I never talked down to anyone who eats meat. I have even cooked meats for my family and friends. it's a personal choice and everyone needs to respect that.

I just make sure to eat before going somewhere where the only food will be meat, or will include meat... I can't expect them to cater to my special wants. That would be ignorant and selfish of me. So I do think your uncle was being pretty douche-y, OP. But not all vegans/vegetarians are. Sorry he had to reinforce a bad stereotype about us. :(
