as much as I can see the issues with closing early, there are certain things that can only be done after closing the store at most places, and so whether this is a ydi or an fml depends on a few things to me. I once worked at a place where I was hired to work days, but while I was working there one of the people who closed most days of the week quit. Being flexible I agreed to work a few late shifts until the person could be replaced. There was at least 30-45 minutes of closing stuff that could only be done after the doors were closed. I did them the first night and went in to ask to start a bit later (as that 30-45 minutes put me over the 8 hour limit, and I did not want to have to fill out an overtime slip every night for that amount of time...) and my boss tried to insist "I only pay until 9." to which I asked "What would you like me to do then? because either I close early to get those things done, or I leave at 9 without doing them." She ended up starting me later so that could be worked into regular time.... But it was ridiculous... I'm sorry, but for minimum wage I won't work time for free (especially not that much every day.)
@36 How is your story related to the FML? Anyway, closing 84 seconds early is an easy mistake to make. It could be a simple as different times on different devices. I once got in trouble for clocking out 3 minutes late, but it's because the time stamp was set 3 minutes ahead of the wall clock.
both involve bosses being unreasonable... not that hard of a connection to see... granted that boss was crazy... she fired me for wearing ribbons in my hair that she asked me to wear...
I mean it sucks but unless the clocks in the store are wrong, there's no excuse for closing even a minute early (unless you have permission because of inclement weather or something)
except 84 seconds could simply be a discrepancy between clocks... at my work the clocks all vary slightly (from the earliest to the latest there is usually a 3-5 minute difference...
While getting fired from job sucks watching the store from binoculars is so creepy.
Horrible Bosses 3 right here. Still better than the sequel.
Every second counts, my friend! And some petty people will take that to its literal meaning!
It's not something to be fired over, but it is warranted to be written up. Unless it's a habit of closing early. It really sucks having to wait to the exact time on the dot to close, but that's how we are in the service industry.... Have to be there for the customer until the last minute.
looks like you were a shitty employee and they just needed a reason. if they're that anal, you don't need to work there
I worked at a Safeway deli as the night closer. they told me I had to be off by 9 but I couldn't close the deli till 9 either. Kind of hard to do all the cleaning and prep for the next day in 30 seconds. I said screw it and closed it at 830. Corporate found out I was doing it but the store manager went to bat for me and allowed me to keep doing it.
If you worked at a clock store, this could of been avoided.

Some people are complaining about the 84 seconds.....well i'm more concerned about the manager with his binoculars.
Doesn't seem like a great place to work if they are that uptight and not understanding, you'd be a lot happier in a nicer workplace I presume so it would be better in the end , but why would be bother wait outside is what I'm wondering
