XML is a programming language.

Um. XML would be more accurately described as a 'data language' or 'markup language.' An XML file is closer to a Word document than a program, which is what a programming language creates. It's used to store data, not to represent actions. (the data can itself represent actions, but some other language has to read the XML and interpret 'actions' from that in order for that to work) The distinction probably doesn't matter to anyone who isn't me though :-)

Yes, and we could explain the difference between HTML, CSS, XML, and the scripting languages used to construct dynamic websites (e.g. PHP) but to what effect? This isn't Digg, saying it's a "programming language" or "formatting language for websites" should be enough for FML.
