Since it's under the "work" category, I'm going to assume you we're about to clock in. Most places have guidelines about where employees can and can't park. Since you said it was a close spot, it probably wasn't a spot approved by the guidelines mentioned above. Therefore, you should have let the crazy old man have his spot and you deserve far worse than what did happen.
Let him report his middle-aged heart out, as long as it wasn't a handicapped space nothing's gonna happen.
