Today, I got my two-year-old's Halloween costume in the mail. I tried it on him to make sure it fit. He loves it so much that he is now having a complete meltdown because he wants to go trick-or-treating. He doesn't understand we only go trick-or-treating on Halloween. 23 more days to go. FML

OP here! First off, for all the people inquiring about what the costume is, it is a plush dinosaur that his legs go into and his upper half sticks out of it. You can see a picture of it if you search "dinosaur" at costume express. And the issue isnt that he loves the costume, in fact he hated putting it on at first. The issue is that he wants candy and he wants candy RIGHT NOW. Thanks for all the suggestions. But now that a day has gone by, the costume is in a closet and he seems to have forgotten all about it.

My candy never got past the second day. My father would be passed out on the floor surrounded by candy wrappers

Maybe try a count down activity, like a paper chain or putting stickers on a calendar, to help him pass the time and learn to be patient? Little kids down understand the passage of time at all, and 23 days could mean 5 seconds or a thousand years for all he knows.

STILL glad I dont have kids-who wants to deal with that crap?

People who don't just think about themselves :)

This implication that being child-free is a selfish act is... stupid in my opinion. I get it all the time. Because I choose to live my life other ways, and do not want to bring more children into an overpopulated world, people assume I am selfish. You are not special for having kids or not having them.

Exactly, 60! I'm going to have children eventually, but having been married for 5 years, I hear a lot of questions about when we're going to start a family. Why do people assume everyone wants to be a parent right away?

Get a calendar, hang it in plain sight, and start a countdown to the correct date with him. And the practicing at home sounds fun too. Good luck.

I kinda want to know what he's going to be..

How does a 2 year old comprehend the idea of trick or treating?

Costume means candy. Simple. Chances are they have been telling him about Halloween.

Aw, a happy FML for once! I mean, I can imagine that being annoying as hell but it's also extremely cute and hey, at least he likes it. :)

Hardest thing to do is show them then put it away! I would advise getting his mind on something else like going for ice cream or going to the park or working in the garage! It's not yours or his fought, you had to make sure it fit and he's a kid I'm sure you got this under control! Good luck
