Today, I got screamed at, threatened, cursed, and spat on by an elderly couple for "running them off the road". I was driving an ambulance, lights and sirens on, with a 4 year old in the back who couldn't breathe. They were going 20 in a 50mph zone for 2 miles straight. FML

& this is why I think the elderly should have to retake drivers Ed.

Jeez that's why old people should have to turn in their drivers license in order to obtain a Medicare card or something!

I hate that.. I know that well being an emt myself! For you to get yelled at is rediculous

Hope the kid is ok. Oh, and I hope you got the license plate of the couple & turned them into the police for not "yielding the right of way to an emergency vehicle" by pulling off the road for you...also, if they're into road rage and driving below the speed limit then they need their DL's revoked & the car impounded. I hate when incompetent elderly people think that just because they're still breathing that they can still drive.

Retake? Not just retake but also a professional eye exams & a mental exam of their competence is appropriate. I knew a lady who (even though her DR had NOT cleared her to drive after a heart attack) was still able to get her license renewed & then the policeman who pulled her over for running over a median @ 10 PM,called me to come drive her home...she was also TOTALLY night blind & she knew NOT to drive @ night + she had attention issues.

The elderly deserve respect, unless they can't give respect back.

Hope the four year old is okay! Those old people had no right to do that to you!

Yea, but you'd be surprised what you see/hear on the job. I was accused of being a cop by a Marine that had served in Vietnam. I've been called officer a few times, swung at, verbally assaulted...thank god I love my job...

Hopefully when it's one of THEM in the back of the ambulance, they will be held up as well. When you see flashing lights behind, you pull the crap over! Somebody is in dire need of medical attention. Whatever it is you have to do IS NOT more important!
