HOW RUDE! Your date may have planned an expensive date or later take you to something exceptionally romantic. You allowed a tag-along and have no idea if you caused the date to waste money. It may have truly broken his heart if he'd been really working up to ask you out.
if it wasn't a "date" then you wouldn't be wrong in this situation but since it was....yeah I'd have to agree on that being rude even if the friend was gay it's still rude.
You couldn't say no to a friend joining you on a date? Obviously your date isn't going to take your feelings for him seriously and just shows that you'll probably let others crash future dates also. Kind of hard to get to know someone on that level if your friend is tagging along. More like **** your date's life, the guy you both consider to be your "friend"(who obviously isn't a good friend to either of you) crashes your date and wants to take you from him. Also, poor you two guys like you...must be hard being you.
You should have said no. To make it up to your date, you should go on another date with him. Then make sure not to invited your "gay" friend. Make it clear he is not invited.
When I started reading this I really thought it was going to end with "My date texted my friend and now they're dating!"
when your on a date. you don't bring other people in it. your not worth anyone's time
you should of kicked them away.. friend or not
Why is everybody blaming OP if she mentioned that it was their friend? As in mutual friend. So her date was just as much at fault for not telling the friend to leave and has no right to be pissed at her.

I have to agree with your date it was rude of you to not tell your friend to leave.
If you were on a date, then you should have told your friend that it was nice to see him, but you'd have to hang out with him at another time. It was rude of you to invite someone else along.
