I don't understand why everyone on here is so convinced that OP's kid is going to be severely traumatized. In my experience kids are not that fragile. When I was 3 my father told me he was a monster so I would leave him alone one day when he had a migraine. This scared me for only one afternoon, then I quickly forgot about it. In addition to that I spent the first 10 years of my life being constantly pranked by my two older brothers who always went to great lengths to try and scare me. Now as an adult I can guarantee that I none of that has rendered me in any way traumatized.
